Pedestrian fatally hit by Amtrak train in Pismo Beach
A woman was fatally hit by an Amtrak train in Pismo Beach on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.
According to a police news release, the pedestrian was walking northbound in the middle of the tracks around 12:33 p.m. Wednesday when she was hit by the train, which was traveling northbound near Frady Lane.
“Despite attempts to warn the pedestrian or stop the train, the pedestrian was ultimately struck by the train and was pronounced deceased at the scene due to her injuries from the collision,” the release said.
After the collision, the train came to a stop on the tracks.
Cal Fire, the Pismo Beach Police Department and emergency services workers from San Luis Obispo Ambulance responded to the scene, along with Amtrak Police and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office coroner investigators.
In the release, the victim was described as a white female adult in her late 30s.
Sheriff’s investigators are assisting with identifying the pedestrian, whose identity will be withheld until her family is notified, the release said.
