South County high school evacuated for bomb threat, Sheriff’s Office says
Classes at Central Coast New Tech High School in Nipomo were paused Thursday as the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office investigated a bomb threat to the school.
The bomb threat was reported at approximately 10:15 a.m., Tony Cipolla, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said in an email.
Those inside the school were evacuated to Nipomo High School, which is on a campus adjoining New Tech’s.
A search of the school by sheriff’s deputies and K9s concluded around 12:20 p.m., Cipolla said. No device was found.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, a student received the the threat in a text message.
Amy Jacobs, Lucia Mar Unified School District spokesperson, told The Tribune in an email that classes will resume now that it has been cleared as safe for students and staff.
The threat was found not credible, Jacobs said, and did not originate from any of New Tech’s students.
“We are proud of the student who reported the threat,” Jacobs said in the email. “The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority for us. “
