A portion of Mentone Avenue in Grover Beach is closed due to a “suspicious device” found, police said.

The Grover Beach Police Department closed part of a road in a residential neighborhood Wednesday night after the discovery of a so-called “suspicious device.”

Officers were on the scene at the 1200 block of Mentone Avenue around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, the Grover Beach Police Department said via Twitter.

Mentone Avenue was temporarily closed to traffic between the 1100 and 1300 blocks, and people were asked to avoid the area.

Police later determined that the device was a geocache recreational gaming pipe.

Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity where participants hide containers at specific coordinates for others to find.
