A person was found dead on Cal Poly’s campus this weekend, university officials confirmed Monday.

According to Cal Poly spokesman Matt Lazier, the Cal Poly Police Department received a report of a body near Building 180 — the Warren J. Baker Center for Science and Mathematics — around 9:23 a.m. on Sunday.

“Officials responded and confirmed the report,” Lazier said, before requesting assistance from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office provided a coroner investigator to conduct an investigation, Lazier said.

“As that investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide any additional comment on cause or circumstances of the person’s death,” Lazier said, “except to say that there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances or anything to indicate a broader safety concern for the campus community.”

Lazier added the deceased individual is not a student or employee at Cal Poly.
