Wildfire burning near San Miguel blackens 355 acres across 2 counties

A wildfire that started Sunday evening burned 355 acres of land in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties, according to Cal Fire.

The Vineyard Fire started around 6:30 p.m. Sunday east of San Miguel at the intersection of Vineyard Canyon Road and Indian Valley Road, the agency said on its incident page.

Smoke could be seen billowing over vineyards across the area.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the fire was 80% under containment and forward spread of the fire had been stopped, Cal Fire said.

There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries and no structures were damaged in the Vineyard Fire, the agency said.

Evacuations were lifted and all threats to the surrounding structures had been mitigated as of Monday morning, according to Cal Fire.

Evacuations areas included Indian Valley, Vineyard Canyon, Hidden Creek and Cross County roads.

The cause of the blaze was still under investigation as of Monday.
