Central Coast firefighters rescue young fox trapped in soccer net
A young fox trapped in a soccer net found freedom thanks to the helping hands of Central Coast firefighters on Saturday morning.
Personnel from the Montecito Fire Department responded after 8 a.m. Saturday to the 1300 block of School House Road.
They located a gray fox kit tangled in a soccer net and worked to free the young animal from its predicament.
The fox reunited with its family nearby, Montecito firefighters said.
Gray foxes are native to California and are most active at dawn, dusk and night, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
They also are the only fox species to climb trees, and enjoy a varied diet of rodents, rabbits, squirrels, insects, berries and nuts.
The gray foxes typically avoid people, and Fish and Wildlife representatives remind residents not to feed foxes since it can increase the risk of disease to other wildlife or pets.
