Gas leak forces evacuation in Cambria’s East Village
Firefighters evacuated people from an area within 200 feet of the Cambria Post Office for a brief time early Tuesday morning due to a gas leak, according to the Cambria Fire Department.
“This morning at 7:43 am, the Cambria (Community Services District) Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial gas line break at the Post Office in Cambria,” the department posted on Facebook. “Initial reports indicate that a truck struck the gas line before driving away.”
Until utility crews can arrive to cut service to the area and make repairs, firefighters remain on standby in the busy business district of the town’s historical East Village.
The Post Office is located at 4100 Bridge St. in the East Village.
A San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office watch commander said at 9 a.m. that, according to his report from firefighters, the evacuation had been lifted and the area was clear.
