Exposed SLO County gas pipeline to get permanent repairs, SoCalGas says. Here’s when
Permanent repairs to an exposed gas line near Cayucos should be finished by early June, SoCalGas estimates.
Some work is proceeding on temporary supports for the pipeline.
“SoCalGas is awaiting the necessary permit approvals for permanent repairs,” SoCalGas spokesman Dan Guthrie wrote in an email said in an email reply Monday.
The pipeline was exposed after heavy rainfall and flows from Whale Rock Reservoir.
Temporary facilities are providing service to the affected communities of Cayucos, Cambria and San Simeon.
While the gas line is still exposed, “Water levels have receded, and sections of the pipeline are now above the water,” Guthrie said. “Temporary bracing remains in place to support the pipe as the water level continues to drop.”
He said that SoCalGas’s Whale Rock Operations unit “anticipates the installation should be complete by April 18.”
A large compound of tankers, trucks and other SoCalGas equipment continues operations in a Caltrans roadside pullout between Highway 1 and the ocean and between Cayucos and Villa Creek
