Car plunges 200 feet off Highway 166, killing 1 person and injuring another
A crash on Highway 166 in Santa Barbara County killed one person and sent another to the hospital via airlift Friday morning, Santa Barbara County Fire said on Twitter.
At around 8:13 a.m. Friday morning, a car went off the side of Highway 166 around three-quarters of a mile east of Rockfront Ranch, coming to rest about 200 feet off the roadway.
The vehicle was carrying two people, who were trapped inside and needed an extraction from the California Highway Patrol, the traffic incident information page said.
The surviving passenger was in critical condition and was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Highway 166 was closed in both directions all the way to Highway 101, the agency said on Twitter.
As of around 11 a.m., access to Highway 166 from Highway 101 had been opened, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident information page.
