Portions of Bob Jones Bike Trail closed for storm cleanup and repair

A portion of the Bob Jones Bike Trail has closed for storm cleanup, the city of San Luis Obispo announced Monday morning.

The city’s portion of the trail, which stretches from Prado Road to Los Osos Valley Road, was closed Monday morning and is expected to remain out of use for “several weeks,” according to the city.

This month’s record-breaking rain storms flooded the adjacent San Luis Obispo Creek, left a slew of debris and damage in its wake and temporarily shuttered the popular biking trail.

“This closure is essential for public safety while crews mobilize in the area for debris removal,” the city tweeted Monday.

Meanwhile the Avila Beach portion of the Bob Jones trail also is closed, from the Ontario Road parking lot to the Avila Beach Golf Resort, Tanya Richardson, assistant director of SLO County Parks and Recreation told The Tribune on Monday.

“We are still having repairs being done on the closed portion of the trail,” Richardson said. “Our hope is the contractor will start this week, with an opening maybe later in the week or next week.”
