CHP identifies Paso Robles man who died after Highway 46 crash
The California Highway Patrol identified on Wednesday identified a Paso Robles man who died after his vehicle crashed on Highway 46 West.
Richard H. Clement Sr., 70, was traveling westbound in a a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck on Highway 46 at about 2 p.m. Tuesday when he apparently suffered a medical emergency and drifted off the road, the CHP said.
Clement’s truck drifted into the eastbound lane, across the opposite shoulder and onto an embankment just west of Castoro Cellars, the CHP said.
The vehicle then continued back across the highway, over the north shoulder and down an embankment at Anderson Road in front of Tooth & Nail Wine Company, where it came to a stop, according to the CHP.
Emergency responders gave Clement CPR, but were unable to revive him, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Toni Davis.
Clement died at the scene of the crash, the CHP said.
There is no evidence that reckless driving, use of drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, the agency said.
