Discount store Five Below announces grand opening for new SLO store
Discount shoppers, rejoice — Five Below has set an opening date for its new San Luis Obispo store.
The new store is set to open in the Madonna Plaza on Friday, according to a sign posted on the building on Wednesday.
The business has taken over the spot previously occupied by Petco, which closed in December 2021.
Five Below is a national discount chain akin to Dollar Tree, except the majority of the items are marketed as costing $5 or less (the store does sell some higher-priced goods as well). The business was founded in Pennsylvania in 2002 and has since grown to encompass more than 1,200 stores across the United States, according to the Five Below website.
The store is predominately targeted toward tweens and teens.
Five Below representatives did not respond to Tribune requests for comment on the new space as of Wednesday.
A sign has also gone up in the adjacent space — the original Petco space was split into two after it closed — announcing Party City will be opening soon in the shopping center. An debut date for that business has not yet been announced.
