San Luis Obispo’s popular Downtown SLO Farmers Market on Thursday will be canceled due to a forecast of rain, organizers said.

“This is standard procedure for inclement weather,” Downtown SLO spokesperson Rachel Lackmann wrote in an email to The Tribune.

The National Weather Service predicted that rain may start falling as early as Wednesday evening in the coastal and central areas of San Luis Obispo County, with the heaviest rainfall likely occurring Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

Atascadero, Cambria, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo are each forecast to get more than an inch of rainfall from Thursday through Friday, the Weather Service said.

According to Lackmann, the San Luis Obispo farmers market, typically held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Higuera Street, will resume on Dec. 8.

Other events organized by Downtown SLO, such as the 46th annual Downtown Holiday Parade on Friday, will “continue as scheduled” regardless of the rain, Lackmann said.

The parade is set to wind through the streets of downtown San Luis Obispo from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
