Two people died in a head-on vehicle crash on Highway 1 in Arroyo Grande early Wednesday morning, according to a CHP news release.

Cori Lee Hudson, a 38-year-old Grover Beach resident, was traveling southbound on the highway in his Dodge Ram pickup truck at about 4:45 a.m.

Intending to turn onto Winterhaven Way, Hudson turned left and crossed the northbound lane at an “undetermined speed,” the news release said.

His truck collided head-on with a Honda Civic traveling north on Highway 1.

The Honda driver and a 35-year-old passenger were fatally injured in the crash. CHP has not released their names.

Hudson was moderately injured in the collision, and was not arrested.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, the news release said.

Caltrans limited Highway 1 to one-way traffic during part of the morning, but the freeway re-opened by 7 a.m., according to a Caltrans tweet.
