Sheriff identifies man who died after falling off a cliff at Pirate’s Cove

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died after falling off a cliff at Pirate’s Cove over the weekend.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla said the victim was 28-year-old Troy Hathaway of San Luis Obispo.

According to a previous Tribune report, he fell into the ocean shortly after midnight on May 27. Numerous agencies responded to the scene for reports of a fall and water rescue.

Cipolla said the cause of death has been as ruled blunt force trauma. No foul play is suspected.

An investigation into Hathaway’s death is ongoing.
