Driving in SLO? Tree-trimming project will cause traffic, block roads. Here’s where

San Luis Obispo is proud of its “urban forest,” but that feature requires maintenance that will cause some temporary traffic delays starting this week.

According to a city news release, commuters can expect a month-long tree-trimming project to cause delays on three roads throughout the city. Those include:

  • Chorro Street, between Lincoln Avenue and Rougeot Place
  • Foothill Boulevard, between Ferrini Road and Los Cerros Drive
  • Murray Avenue, between Santa Rosa and Broad streets

For Murray Avenue, the city noted the work is expected to continue from June 6-10; the release did not specify dates for the other two streets.

During the work, commuters should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes. Work zones will be delineated with traffic control devices and sign boards.

The work is part of the city’s Urban Forest Services Program, which manages and maintains about 14,000 trees that make up the city’s “urban forest,” according to the release.

In December 2021, the city launched a program with local hotels that aimed to plant 10,000 trees by 2035. Work on that program began earlier this year.
