Emergency crews responded to a garbage fire outside of Pismo Beach on Monday afternoon that blocked traffic for several hours.

A fire was reported at Price Canyon and Thousand Hills roads around 11:44 a.m., according to the emergency response app Pulsepoint.

Northbound lanes of Price Canyon were closed as firefighters battled the blaze, which was initially reported as a debris fire, according to CHP’s traffic incident report page. The southbound lanes remained open.

Forward progress was stopped on the fire by about 2:50 p.m., with the blaze reaching approximately a quarter acre, according to Cal Fire.

The fire is currently under investigation.
