Roe v. Wade supporters are planning a protest this evening outside the San Luis Obispo Superior Court in response to the Supreme Court’s draft opinion to undo its nearly half-century-old position on abortion.

Women’s March SLO said in an email and on an Instagram post that it supports people showing up to their local courthouses across the country to protest Roe v. Wade potentially being overturned.

The group plans to meet community members outside the San Luis Obispo Superior Court, 1050 Monterey St., at 5 p.m.

The 1973 Roe v. Wade decision protects a women’s right to access abortion.

Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive health policy think tank, found in an analysis of abortion laws nationwide that 23 states would effectively restrict abortion access if the decision is overturned, and more than half would almost completely ban it.
