Pain at the pump: In SLO County, you’ll pay at least $5 a gallon as gas prices soar

It’s starting to feel like a broken record of broken records here, but San Luis Obispo County has once again set new local highs as gas prices continue their non-stop sprint upwards amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

On Thursday evening, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in San Luis Obispo County was $5.73, the highest in at least-five years (though likely more), according to GasBuddy.com.

Prices have increased by about 82 cents this month, and 68 cents in the past week alone.

Thursday was also the first day where no local stations appeared to be selling gas for less than $5 per gallon.

As of 5 p.m., the cheapest gas in San Luis Obispo County was $5.35 per gallon at both Fast Trip Fuel and Wayside Liquors in Paso Robles and Arco in Arroyo Grande.

The most expensive gas was $6.59 per gallon at Chevron in Templeton, Shell in Cambria and Shell in Shell Beach.

Prices are expected to continue to increase for the near future.
