Firefighters contain small brush fire sparked by blown transformer near Cayucos

A blown transformer likely sparked a small brush fire near Cayucos Thursday morning, according to Cal Fire in San Luis Obispo County.

The fire, which was started just after 10 a.m., was last reported to be about 40 feet by 40 feet in size, Cal Fire spokesman Adan Orozco said.

Firefighters on scene were able to quickly contain the blaze by about 11:25 a.m., according to emergency scanner traffic.

Access to the fire was difficult, Orozco said. The small fire was located off rural Montecito Road east of Cayucos and south of Whale Rock Reservoir.

PG&E officials were also on scene to assess downed power lines in the area.
