A week after breaking out, Alisal Fire is getting closer to full containment

A week after it broke out and blazed a fiery path toward Highway 101, the Alisal Fire burning in Santa Barbara County is approaching full containment.

According to Los Padres National Forest officials, the fire was 80% contained as of Monday morning, with an estimated 17,254 acres burned.

Officials say there was minimal fire activity Sunday, as a cold front pushed cooler weather and increased moisture levels through the area.

This helped crews to make more progress on containing the fire.

That progress is expected to continue on Monday, as fire suppression efforts begin to transition to repairs, according to Los Padres National Forest officials.

“Today’s priority is to contain patches of heat along the northwest edge of the fire and continue to keep the fire within the current footprint,” Los Padres National Forest officials said in a news release Monday morning.

Meanwhile, all evacuation orders have been canceled for the region surrounding the fire.
