Update: Highway 41 reopens near Cholame ‘Y’ after dust storm closure

A portion of Highway 41 that leads from San Luis Obispo County to Kern County was shut down late Sunday night due to a dust storm.

According to Caltrans District 6, which is in charge of Kern County highways, an extreme dust storm caused “zero visibility” in the area north of Highway 46 at the Cholame “Y” around 11 p.m.

Both lanes of Highway 41 between highway 46 and 33 were closed in response to the inclement weather.

Highway 41 had reopened as of 1:10 a.m. Monday, Caltrans spokesman Jim Shivers confirmed via Twitter.
