This fall is shaping up to be a busy time at Vandenberg Space Force Base, with yet another rocket scheduled to take off from the base near Lompoc this weekend.
Space X is scheduled to launch its Falcon 9 rocket between 10:34 a.m. and 11:34 a.m. Sunday. This is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
The rocket will carry a batch of 51 satellites for SpaceX’s growing broadband internet system, Starlink, into space.
This is the second round of Starlink satellites to be launched from the Central Coast base this fall. The first was in September.
How to watch the rocket launch
The SpaceX launch will likely be viewable from around the Central Coast, depending on the weather conditions and whether Vandenberg’s infamous fog makes an appearance.
There are several viewing areas around the Lompoc area for those interested in watching the spectacle live, including the public viewing area known as the Hawks Nest at Camellia Lane on Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Cars also often line up along Ocean Avenue, also known as Highway 246, with hundreds of spectators sitting on top of their vehicles or on the side of the road waiting for the fiery spectacle to come shooting over the hills.
Other popular viewing sites include spots along Firefighter, Harris Grade and Santa Lucia roads.
