SLO County City to the Sea race canceled due to COVID-19 concerns

The 2020 City to the Sea Half Marathon & 5K have been canceled due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The popular running event, which was originally slated for September, will be postponed until September 2021, organizers announced Monday in a news release.

“We have made the decision to cancel what was supposed to be the 25th anniversary of the race due to coronavirus-related health and safety concerns for runners, spectators, volunteers, staff, and the many partners and communities that support the event,” the release said.

This year’s race was to begin Sept. 12 on Higuera Street in downtown San Luis Obispo and end at Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach, according to the City to the Sea website.

The cancellation also affects a five-kilometer run and a kids’ fun run, set to take place on Sept. 13.

All runners registered for this year’s race will be automatically placed in next year’s event, scheduled for Sept. 12, 2021, organizers said.

Runners unable to make the 2021 date are asked to email city2thesea@gmail.com by July 27.
