5 SLO residents displaced after structure fire destroys multi-unit building
Five residents have been displaced after a fire burned through five units of a multi-unit building on the corner of Islay Street and Morro Street in San Luis Obispo.
According to the San Luis Obispo City Fire news line, firefighters responded to reports of a potential structure fire around 3 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, they saw the building was heavily engulfed in flames and called for more units.
Cal Fire SLO, 5 Cities Fire, Morro Bay Fire and Templeton Fire all responded to the scene.
All residents were evacuated and no injuries were reported, San Luis Obispo City Fire said.
At 4:19 a.m., the fire was extinguished. Of the five units, one was completely lost to the fire, two were moderately damaged and two had minor damage.
Crews remained on the scene for “significant overhaul work,” according to the news line.
The American Red Cross is assisting three of the displaced residents and the fire department issued Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency cards so they may purchase basic needs such as food, medicine, and clothing, according to a SLO City Fire tweet.
The two other residents are staying with family, according to SLO City Fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
