Man found dead in middle of Morro Bay street. Now police are searching for answers

Update, 10:30 a.m. Thursday: Morro Bay Police Chief Jody Cox said the agency is awaiting autopsy results from the county Sheriff-Coroner’s Office before providing an update on the investigation.

Original story: Morro Bay police officers are investigating an early morning death of a man Monday and are seeking information from the community.

The Morro Bay Police Department did not say whether investigators suspect foul play, but in a a news release early Monday afternoon referred to the death as a “suspicious circumstance” and called the unnamed man a “victim.”

Officials are not releasing the man’s age or identity pending notification of his family.

At 2:53 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the area of Harbor Street and Piney Way after receiving a report of a man lying in the middle of the roadway, the release said.

Police and fire personnel arrived at the scene and discovered that the man was deceased, police said.

According to the release, the investigation into the death is ongoing.
