Swimmer in distress rescued from waves near Avila Beach

Cal Fire SLO and Port San Luis Harbor Patrol rescued a swimmer in distress near Pirate’s Cove in the Avila Beach area Thursday morning.

A hiker reported a person in distress below Cave’s Landing around 10:30 a.m., according to scanner traffic.

The rescue crew made visual contact with the swimmer around 10:40 a.m. and were able to access the swimmer via paddle board, according to Cal Fire tweets.

The swimmer was brought aboard a Harbor Patrol boat by 10:52 a.m. and will be transported to land to be treated by San Luis Obispo Ambulance medics, according to Cal Fire.

Additional response units have been canceled, according to Cal Fire.
