Coronavirus outbreaks at 2 residential care facilities in SLO County reported over weekend

Two more residential care facilities in San Luis Obispo County reported coronavirus outbreaks over the weekend, the county confirmed Tuesday.

According to a news release Tuesday afternoon, the county is “working closely with two local residential care facilities, which had outbreaks over the weekend.” Both facilities saw residents with COVID-19 who were admitted to the hospital, the county health department said in the release.

One is a facility for the elderly in North County, according to the release, while the other in San Luis Obispo is for adults with developmental disabilities.

The county did not disclose the names of the facilities or how many patients were impacted by the outbreak.

On June 16, health officials reported an outbreak had occurred at Vista Rosa Assisted Living in San Luis Obispo after a staff member and a resident had tested positive for COVID-19. Seven people were later confirmed to have contracted the virus.

The outbreaks come as San Luis Obispo County continues to see a surge in local coronavirus cases.

On Tuesday, San Luis Obispo County added 43 new cases of coronavirus, and county officials warned that the area may be heading toward the state’s watch list for increasing COVID-19 cases.
