SLO County adds 3 COVID-19 cases as number of residents tested passes 10,000
San Luis Obispo County added three coronavirus cases on Wednesday — and 266 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since March, according to ReadySLO.org.
The county has reported more than 10,000 residents tested between the county Public Health Department and private labs as of Wednesday.
Two of the three new cases are in Paso Robles, which continues to have the highest rate of cases; and one new case is in Nipomo.
It’s now been more than two months since the county Public Health Department announced the first local coronavirus case.
SLO County’s COVID-19 cases by the numbers
Of the 266 local residents who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, 237 have completely recovered from the illness, with three new recoveries since Tuesday.
Twenty-five people are still recovering at home, and three patients are receiving hospital treatment; two are in intensive care units.
One local resident has died from COVID-19.
Paso Robles continues to have the most COVID-19 cases in the county with 112. Atascadero has 38 cases, Arroyo Grande has 22, Nipomo has 20, San Luis Obispo has 18, and California Men’s Colony has 11.
Pismo Beach and San Miguel both have nine cases and Templeton has eight cases and Morro Bay has six. Other areas — defined as cities or communities with fewer than five cases — have 13 cases altogether.
Sixty-seven cases involve people ages 50 to 64, and 48 cases are ages 65 and older.
There are 126 residents aged 18 to 49 who’ve tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining 25 cases involved people ages 17 and younger.
The county has determined the route of transmission for 49 patients was travel related, while 125 were person-to-person contact and 89 have been contracted through community spread.
The county has not determined the route of transmission for three cases.
Public Health and private labs conducted 196 COVID-19 tests in San Luis Obispo County between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The county’s Public Health lab has conducted 2,878 tests with 88 positive results. Private labs have conducted at least 7,242 tests with 178 positive results.
Private labs have reported negative results to the county since April 13.
As of Wednesday, 1,736,894 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in California, according to the state Department of Public Health. Statewide, 98,980 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, and 3,884 people have died.
When and where to get a COVID-19 test
Two free coronavirus testing clinics are open in Grover Beach and Paso Robles with a capacity to test up to a combined 260 tests a day.
Testing is available by appointment only between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Paso Robles Veterans Hall, 240 Scott St. in Paso Robles, and Ramona Garden Community Center, 993 Ramona Ave. in Grover Beach.

Testing is also available through private healthcare providers, urgent care centers and the County Public Health Lab.
