Multi-vehicle crash backs up traffic on Hwy. 101 south of San Luis Obispo



Update 5 p.m.: The scene of the crash has been cleared as of 5 p.m. and traffic on southbound Highway 101 north of San Luis Bay Drive is moving normally, according to Caltrans.

Original story: Traffic on southbound Highway 101 is backed up south of San Luis Obispo due to a multi-vehicle crash that occurred at about 2:28 p.m. near the San Luis Bay Drive off-ramp.

Traffic is backed up approximately three miles, according to CHP. The CHP and sheriff’s deputies are on scene.

The crash happened on southbound Highway 101 near the San Luis Bay Drive off-ramp, and multiple vehicles are reportedly stopped along the center divider.

It came at a bad time and location too, on Friday afternoon on the stretch of highway that regularly backs up heading toward the Shell Beach Straits.

The extent of any injuries has not yet reported on the CHP website.
