Power out in Oceano after lightning strikes pole

Update, 6 p.m.:

Roughly 493 customers are still without power south of Oceano along Highway 1, after lightning struck an electrical transformer.

According to PG&E’s outage map, the power outage was reported around 4 p.m. It is expected to be resolved around 7:15 p.m.

Power is out to an undetermined number of residents after an electrical transformer was struck by lightning in Oceano.

The National Weather Service, citing the CHP, said that a lightning strike caused a fire and downed power lines off Highway 1 near South Halcyon Road in Oceano.

“This is associated with the line of storms moving through the region!” the NWS Los Angeles tweeted at 4:24 p.m.

According to PG&E’s outage web page, between 50 and 499 customers could be affected by the resulting power outage.

The utility says power is excepted to be restored in the affected area by 7:15 p.m.
