New flights bring record number of passengers to SLO County airport
More passengers than ever traveled through the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport in 2019, with 544,575 people traveling to and from the new San Luis Obispo terminal.
That’s 12% more than the previous year, which was at the time the busiest year on record, according to a news release issued by the county.
The busiest month was December 2019, when the airport served 50,419 travelers.
Business leaders and county officials see the airport as cornerstone of economic growth in the region, providing travel service for local businesses looking to move or grow here.
Recent growth is due to new airline service and destinations.
In 2019, the airport offered direct flights to locations including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Phoenix, Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle, adding Las Vegas as a destination in June 2019.
It’s likely 2020 will be a record-breaking year as well. The airport launched direct flights to San Diego in January, and service to Portland is scheduled to begin in June.
Service is provided by United Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Contour Airlines.
