Original story:
One person was struck by a car and killed on Tank Farm Road in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday night, police say.
The collision happened sometime before 11 p.m. just east of the Higuera Street, Tank Farm Road intersection.
San Luis Obispo Police Department Sgt. Kevin Phillips said the agency received a call about a pedestrian down in the roadway; when they arrived on scene they determined the person had been hit by a car and was deceased.
Phillips said officers are currently talking to the driver and investigating the collision to determine its cause and whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
“Nothing appears that the driver was under the influence — that is not a factor at this point based on what we are seeing already,” Phillips said. “Obviously dark conditions on a dark roadway and a pedestrian in the middle of the roadway contributed to that.”
As of 11:45 p.m., the San Luis Obispo Police Department and CHP were both still at the scene. The roadway will be shut down for about four hours, Phillips said.
Roadwork has been ongoing in that area of Tank Farm Road for several weeks.
Phillips urged drivers to be cautious in areas where construction is happening or where there is not a lot of lighting. Pedestrians are cautioned to wear bright clothing and avoid the roadways.
