One person killed in Santa Maria DUI crash, police say

One person was killed early Friday in a two-vehicle crash near the western edge of Santa Maria.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments responded to a traffic collision on Stowell Road, west of Blosser Road, according to police.

The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

“Alcohol and speed appear to have been a factor with both drivers,” police said.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Police did not provide information about the second driver’s condition.

The roadway was expected to remain closed for several more hours while officers continue investigating the crash, police said at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Additional details were not immediately available.
