Original story
A semi tractor-trailer truck hauling crushed vehicles overturned on Highway 1 near Nipomo on Friday, spilling fuel and blocking traffic.
The truck was traveling southbound on Highway 1 about 11:20 a.m. and attempted to turn left onto Willow Road, CHP Sgt. Tim Santoro said. It overturned, blocking traffic and spilling diesel fuel.
Cal Fire, Caltrans and the CHP responded to the incident to help clear the road and assist with traffic control.
The cleanup — which will involve off-loading the crushed cars, was expected to take at least two hours — Santoro said.
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, the southbound lane remained closed, and traffic was being diverted onto Willow Road. The CHP was holding northbound traffic and directing drivers with signals.
