Driver fleeing SLO County deputies hits, injures motorcyclist, Sheriffs Office says

The SLO County Sheriff’s Office says the pursuit that ended in a car crash Thursday night was related to an alleged felony domestic violence dispute.
According to a news release, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in progress in rural Arroyo Grande around 7:45 p.m.
The male suspect fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival, according to the release, but he was later seen driving in the area of the victim’s residence. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled and a pursuit ensued.
According to the release, during the pursuit, a motorcycle rider was hit by the suspect, causing both the motorcycle and the car the suspect was in to crash.
The motorcyclist had moderate to serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and the suspect had minor injuries, according to the news release.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office deputies, and an administrative review of the pursuit is underway. An investigation into the alleged domestic violence is also underway, according to the release.

Highway 1 is closed in southern SLO County on Thursday night thanks to a car versus motorcycle crash.
Cal Fire SLO tweeted firefighters responded to a crash on Highway 1 in the area of Callender around 8:30 p.m.
According to the agency, the crash involved a vehicle and a motorcycle.
When crews arrived on scene they found the two collided after a “pursuit” in the area, and the vehicle rolled several times before catching on fire, according to Cal Fire.
It is unclear the nature of the pursuit that preceded the crash.
Cal Fire said two people were injured in the incident and have been transported to the hospital.
The agency added that Highway 1 is “completely closed.”
