Large tree falls on house in Morro Bay, closing road

A tree fell onto a house in Morro Bay on Friday afternoon, possibly leading to a power outage in the area.

The house, located in the 400 block of Orcas Street, was evacuated and the road was closed, according to a tweet from the Morro Bay Fire Department.

Photos posted by the department show the tree resting on the corner of a single-story home and awning, with several branches tugging at a power line.

The tree’s large root system appears to have lifted a chunk of earth, and its trunk has crashed through a picket fence.

A power outage that began at 12:08 p.m. Friday left 26 customers in the area without electricity, PG&E reported.

Power was first expected to be restored around 3:15 p.m. That was later postponed to 8 p.m.

Morro Bay Water Company & Public Works worked to remove the tree from the house and Orcas Street remained closed for several hours for possible electrical hazards, according to a 4 p.m. tweet from Morro Bay Fire Department.
