Flood advisory issued for SLO and Santa Barbara counties

Update 8 p.m.: A flash flood warning has been issued for Santa Barbara County’s south coast, including the cities of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, and the community of Montecito.

This advisory lasts until 8:45 p.m. A general flood advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

Original story: A flood advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, as rainfall intensifies Wednesday night.

The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management announced in a tweet the potential for debris flows, minor rock falls and flooding, especially near burn scarred areas.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles tweeted that rainfall rates will fall generally 0.25-0.50 inches per hour.

Hazardous road conditions are being reported across the Central Coast due to weather.

The California Highway Patrol’s website states there are reports of flooding and traffic hazards on Highway 1 near Cambria, flooding on 16th Street in Paso Robles, and two traffic collisions in Nipomo.

The flood advisory is expected to be in place until at least 11 p.m.
