CHP identifies San Miguel man killed in car crash Friday
California Highway Patrol released the identity of the man who was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon near San Miguel.
Officials said 19-year-old Sean Schultz of San Miguel was driving at a high rate of speed on Ranchita Canyon Road from Nickel Creek Road when his car veered into the opposite lane.
The vehicle, a 2002 BMW 330i, reportedly went off the roadway, through a fence and into a dry riverbed 30 feet below. Schultz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to CHP.
A passenger, Austin Althof, 18, of San Miguel was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with minor injuries.
CHP is investigating the crash, and officers believe alcohol may have been a factor.
