Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham takes the ‘whipped cream challenge’

California Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham is the latest high-profile person to take a whipped cream pie to the face to benefit the 17Strong Foundation.

The “whipped cream challenge,” a concept created by Arroyo Grande native Ryan Teixeira before his death March 4 after a battle with cancer, has gone viral on social media in recent weeks.

Here’s the challenge: Participants take a whipped cream pie to the face and nominate three more people to do the same within 24 hours or make a financial donation to the foundation.

“Ryan, you are an inspiration to us all and you are greatly missed,” Cunningham says in the video, before his daughter smashes a pie into his face.

Cunningham represents the 35th District, which includes San Luis Obispo County and parts of Santa Barbara County.

Several professional athletes and celebrities have taken part in the challenge, including Los Angeles Dodgers Justin Turner and Adrian Gonzalez, and TV personality Mario Lopez.
