Paso Robles officials are encouraging residents to prepare for winter storms and potential flooding and the city is providing sandbag materials and safety information for the public’s use.

PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey predicts rain and a chance of thunderstorms Thursday afternoon in San Luis Obispo County, which will turn into scattered showers on Friday afternoon. Total rainfall is expected to reach 1 to 1.75 inches, Lindsey said.

In anticipation of the rain, Paso Robles has made sand available at the City Streets Yard at 1220 Paso Robles St.. Residents will need to bring their own shovels and bags to fill, a city news release said.

Empty sandbags are available for purchase at American Builders Supply, Lowe’s, Blake’s Hardware, Orchard Supply Hardware Store and Farm Supply.

For more information, call the city’s Public Works Department at 805-237-3861 or visit the Emergency Services website at prcity.com/government/departments/emergencyservices/disaster-prep.asp.
