Second COVID booster now available for free at SLO County Public Health clinics
The second COVID-19 booster shot is now available to eligible residents free of charge at San Luis Obispo County Public Health clinics.
The COVID-19 shots by Pfizer and Moderna are available at clinics in Grover Beach, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo, according to a Public Health news release.
People ages 50 and up and people 12 and older with compromised immune systems were approved for the second booster shot, the release said.
“This second booster is meant to protect our most vulnerable community members as the highly transmissible BA.2 strain spreads across the country,” County Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said. “Getting vaccinated and boosted is the most effective way to protect yourself from COVID-19, especially from the most serious illness and risk of death.”
The second booster shot is recommended by the United States Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup.
