The show will not go on for the Great American Melodrama this week after several cast members caught COVID-19.

The Oceano theater company’s holiday performances are an annual tradition for many SLO County residents, but this year it will instead have to shut its doors through Christmas, the theater announced on Facebook on Wednesday.

“Due to breakthrough COVID cases amongst our staff members, all performances from today until Christmas Day have been canceled,” they wrote. “We are heartbroken but committed to keeping our staff and audience safe. Thank you for your understanding.”

The theater was currently showing its annual “Holiday Extravaganza” through Dec. 31, featuring a retelling of “The Christmas Carol” and a Holiday Vaudeville Revue.

A full refund will be made available to all who already purchased tickets, the Melodrama said.

Anyone with questions regarding the canceled performances can call the box office at 805-489-2499 or email them at info@americanmelodrama.com for more information.
