4 new COVID-19 deaths reported in SLO County. Here’s where new cases were added
San Luis Obispo County reported four new deaths due to COVID-19 on Friday, as the number of active cases in the area continues to fall, according to the latest data from the Public Health Department.
Since March 2020, 339 people have died from the coronavirus throughout the county. The four deaths reported Friday involved one person age 50 to 64, one person age 65 to 84 and two people ages 85 and older.
“With these additional deaths to report, our hearts go out to our many neighbors who have lost loved ones to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dr. Penny Borenstein, County Health officer. “These deaths are a painful reminder that COVID-19 can be a devastating disease.”
On the hospital front, 11 county residents are currently receiving treatment for the virus, including three intensive care unit patients. About 55% of the county’s ICU capacity remains available.
The county continues to see improvements in the number of active cases, which dropped by almost 200 people during the past three days. As of Friday, there are 467 active cases, the lowest total in almost three months.
Public Health reported 139 new cases between Tuesday and Friday, bringing the pandemic total to more than 29,000.
Three-day COVID-19 case breakdown
Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past three days break down day by day:
The county Public Health Department is not providing information about how many newly reported individual cases, hospitalizations and deaths involve vaccinated and unvaccinated people due to resource limitations and privacy concerns.
Instead, Public Health is releasing weekly data showing the percentages of unvaccinated people who’ve contracted COVID-19, received hospital treatment for the virus or died from it since June 15.
The agency on Oct. 22 released data showing 78.1% of COVID-19 cases, 83.7% of hospitalizations and 76% of deaths since June 15 have involved unvaccinated people.
