SLO County adds 38 coronavirus cases — none in South County

San Luis Obispo County added 38 COVID-19 cases following a day with no new local coronavirus cases, according to ReadySLO.org. One coronavirus-related death was reported on Monday.

As of Tuesday, a total of 4,380 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since mid-March.

The California Department of Public Health did not reassign tier assignments Tuesday due to Election Day. Updated data will be released Wednesday, the state website said.

As of Oct. 27, San Luis Obispo County remained in California’s red COVID-19 tier — meaning that coronavirus spread has been “substantial,” according to the California State Department of Public Health, but it has made progress in the three state metrics to move closer to the “moderate” or orange tier.

The county’s positivity rate is at 2% as of the latest data, representing no change from last week and placed at the bottom edge of the orange tier.

It has an adjusted average of 4.0 new cases per 100,000 people per day, with an unadjusted case rate of 6.0, according to state data. That’s also on the brink of dropping to the lower tier.

And the health equity metric is at 3%, meaning that there is a 3% positivity rate for people who live in the 12 census tracts in San Luis Obispo County ranked in the lowest quarter of California’s Health Place Index. That also is in the “moderate” tier’s range.
