SLO County resident dies due to coronavirus during outbreak at assisted living facility
Another resident in San Luis Obispo County has died from the coronavirus, according to the county’s Public Health Department.
The resident, who was in their 90s and had underlying health conditions, was living at Paradise Valley Care, an assisted living facility in Atascadero, according to a news release sent out by the agency Sunday.
The death brings the county’s coronavirus-related death toll to 16.
A total of 1,783 people have tested positive for COVID-19 locally since mid-March, with nearly two-thirds of those cases reported in July.
Paradise Valley Care is currently experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19, the release said. Two additional deaths have been associated with the facility, the release said.
“As we mourn this loss, I want to remind everyone that we each can help prevent outbreaks and deaths of those who are more vulnerable to serious COVID-19 illness,” county Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said in the release. “Each of us can do our part to break the chain of infection before it reaches the most vulnerable among us. Wear a face covering in public and stay six feet apart from others.”
Five coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in the last week, including three residents at Vineyard Hills Health Center, a skilled nursing facility in Templeton that is experiencing an outbreak.
