Coronavirus updates: SLO County tops 400 COVID-19 cases, fair offers drive-in movies

San Luis Obispo County added 15 new COVID-19 cases Friday, according to ReadySLO.org, bringing the total number of local residents who have tested positive for coronavirus to 404.

As the tally continues to increase across the Central Coast, venues are finding creative ways to offer summertime fun.

SLO County tops 400 coronavirus cases

Public health officials announced Friday that San Luis Obispo County had 15 new coronavirus cases, bringing the overall tally to 404.

The county currently has 98 active cases, with 306 people recovered from COVID-19.

Seven patients remain hospitalized, with four receiving intensive care unit treatment. Paso Robles has more than double the cases of any other community in the county with 132.

Paso Robles Event Center offers food, drive-in movies

The 2020 California Mid-State Fair is canceled, but visitors to the fairgrounds can still enjoy some summertime fun.

The Paso Robles Event Center will offer food and drive-in movies on select weekends in June and July, according to a Friday fair news release.

Fair Food Fix events will offer classic fair eats such as corn dogs and funnel cakes for sale, as well as to-go beverages, the release said. The treats will be available a first-come, first-served basis at the south end of the Paso Robles Event Center.

In addition, fair organizers will convert the venue’s carnival lot into a drive-in movie theater as part of Wheels n’ Reels events, the release said.

9 Santa Barbara County custody workers test positive for COVID-19

Nine Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office custody employees have tested positive for coronavirus, as the county overall reported 82 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, according to Noozhawk.

Four civilian staff and five custody deputies became symptomatic on their days off and were tested for COVID-19, receiving positive results.

Those employees are staying home from work. Nine additional custody employees who are experiencing symptoms stayed home while awaiting test results.
