Drive-in movies, funnel cakes coming to California Mid-State Fair venue this summer
The 2020 California Mid-State Fair has been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, but visitors to the Paso Robles fairgrounds can still enjoy some seasonal fun.
The Paso Robles Event Center will offer food and drive-in movies on select weekends in June and July, according to a Friday fair news release.
Fair Food Fix events will offer classic fair eats such as corn dogs and funnel cakes for sale, as well as to-go beverages, the release said. The treats will be available a first-come, first-served basis at the south end of the Paso Robles Event Center.
In addition, fair organizers will convert the venue’s carnival lot into a drive-in movie theater as part of Wheels n’ Reels events, the release said.
Fair food and drinks will be available 4 to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday on the weekends of June 26 to 28, July 17 to 19 and July 24 to 26.
Visitors can park in the Pioneer Lot on 21st Street, walk onto the fairgrounds and grab their orders, the fairground. Diners may also sit and eat on a picnic blanket or picnic table.
Drive-in movies will be screened on Saturdays and Sundays on the weekends of June 27 to 28, July 18 to 19 and July 25 to 26, with gates opening at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starting at 8:30 p.m. Vehicles may begin lining up at the gate at 6:30 p.m.
The cost is $20 per vehicle, and admission is cash only. Classic fair favorites such as corn dogs and funnel cakes will be available for purchase during movie nights as well.
Access to drive-in movies will also be first-come, first-served, and limited to a maximum of 150 vehicles.
The Paso Robles Event Center will follow state and county safety guidelines, including the cleaning of restrooms, additional hand sanitizing stations and the cleaning of benches and tables between each use, the release said.
Guests are asked to maintain social distancing, wear masks when possible and wash their hands frequently.
