Five Guys — a fast-food chain that sells hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries — will soon be opening in an Arroyo Grande shopping center, said Lauren Lewis, senior communications manager for the company.

The company plans to open the restaurant by the end of the year, Lewis said.

The store will be located at the front of the shopping center at East Grand Avenue and South Elm Street, sharing a building with fast-food Mexican restaurant Chipotle, said Phil Fontes, property manager and owner of the center.

The 2,200-square-foot restaurant at 1229 E. Grand Ave. will be corporate-owned, Lewis said. The store will seat about 50 people and offer some outdoor seating.

The new location will serve milkshakes — a menu item that a little more than half of Five Guys stores offer.

The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Five Guys typically staffs about 25 employees, a mix of full- and part-time. The company is hiring for the Arroyo Grande store, and anyone interested in a position at any level can email MPursley@fiveguys.com and mention the location.

Fontes said he is in talks with the following businesses for space in the center: a beauty salon, a frozen yogurt shop and a cellular phone store. He is pursuing a grocery concept as well.

Fontes said he has received lots of interest from both large and small businesses for space in the nearly 90,000-square-foot center and is trying to achieve a mix of various services and food groups.

Chipotle will begin tenant improvements Aug. 1, and the store will likely open around the end of October or beginning of November, Fontes said.

Currently open in the center are Domino’s Pizza, a drive-thru Starbucks, Rite Aid, Carquest Auto Parts and Arroyo Grande Bakery.
