A new seafood restaurant has opened in downtown Pismo Beach, with an emphasis on upscale coastal cuisine.
According to general manager Thomas Loots, the restaurant’s first week of business went well, with about 180 or 190 customers on Saturday alone. He said about 80 or 90 people have come to the restaurant each weeknight.
The restaurant is located above Wooly’s Beach Bar & Grill, another Compass Health/Custom House restaurant that opened last year in the former Pierside Seafood restaurant location. The Oyster Loft offers a more upscale menu than Wooly’s, which focuses on more casual beach fare like fish and chips and burgers.

The new restaurant features “contemporary coastal cuisine” or fresh seafood dishes with prices ranging between $8 for a creme brulee to $45 for a filet mignon. True to its name, it also offers eight varieties of oyster, both raw and charbroiled, costing $15 for a half-dozen.
“It’s very much Pismo Beach,” Loots said. “You can hear the waves from the dining room and, with the colors and the atmosphere, it feels like you are at the ocean.”
The restaurant is reservation only, though Loots said walk-ins will be allowed to sit at the bar or oyster bar if desired.
It is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Requests for comment from Compass Health on the restaurant were not returned.
